Hello My name is Joe, I grew up in the Bay Area went to a Catholic High School in San Francisco and started to use Copenhagen in 1985. A lot of people out here dipped in the eighties, well at least my little world did. The years went on people got married children were born and most guys stopped. In the 1990’s I would go to many Weddings and Christenings all with a dip in the lip. Traveled to Europe with plenty of Copenhagen. In 2001 I changed careers and got into IT and thought I would cut down but increased my usuage to 1.5 cans a day. In 2012 I got a new position in a Hospital and would walk in the icu, ccu,er, and the cancer floor all with dip in the lip. I have seen people die lost both parents. Dad died in the 80’s Mom died in the 90’s. I think working in the Hospital got to me. Everyday seeing people sick and in bad shape. I know we all going to get sick at some point but something clicked and I knew it was time to lose the dip in the lip. I picked a date of Jan 1 2013. That date Failed! Picked Jan 8-Failed! Picked Jan 12-failed!. I tried to stop in the 90’s many times and I was thinking to myself I don’t know if this is going to happen. Other thoughts like just wait until after the Super Bowl. At this time I was working for a Real Estate Company,I am sure I could got some help at the Hospital but did not take advantage. On Jan 18th which was a Friday took my last Dip. Took a few days off of work and pretty much stayed in bed the first 72 hours. Went back to work on Day 5 and was scared, I dipped and work for 25 years . My motto was if I can make it through 1 day I can make it to 2 etc etc. In week 2 I had another motto You only want to quit once. This was so difficult and there is no way I will cave because the quit was so painful. It has been almost 3 years and I am doing good. I look back now and I can’t believe I started the habit and I look back and I can’t believe I was able to stop the habit. I did not discover Kill the Can until about year ago. I am assuming chewie is the creator but don’t know for sure. Just want to say I have read a lot of the articles and hanged out in the chat room and this is a great service all of you are providing. Congrats on being quit for three years Joe! You certainly understand how difficult it can be. The fact that you were searching for info on quitting after two years, speaks to how this is something we will always struggle with. Groups at KTC are never closed, so if you ever are struggling and want to tap in here, there is a group here to support you. |
