I have been hooked on dip since 2010 when my older brother and I were fishing and he had bet me that I wouldn't throw up after putting one in. It really wasn't ever a gross thing to me because my uncles and grandpa were all hunters, bull riders, and rodeo guys. Not having a father actively in my life lead me to looking up to them. My stomach was tough for a sophomore in high school... I would dip in class and swallow the spit to avoid getting caught by teachers. I never really paid mind to the health risks of chew tobacco because I used it as a crutch to deal with stress and depression. I easily acquired to the taste of dip and even worse, the oral fixation. Which is a very large issue for me. I am 6'5 and 380 pounds. You may be able to tell that I like to put things in my mouth. I went from a can a week, to a can a day within a year or two. I went from Grizzly to Longhorn, so I could buy in bulk for cheap; which lead me to use more and more. This last week I thought I was really constipated, so I went on a high fiber diet and did not eat a whole lot, assuming I could rid of my constipation. Unfortunately I found out I have a hemorrhoid. It really scared me. I blew through a whole tub (12 can count) of dip within a few days over the stress I was enduring. I then stopped eating and chewing for a couple of days and went on a liquid based diet to try and help my hemorrhoid cure. During these few days, I did not think of chewing because of the pain and suffering I was enduring. I started getting stomach cramps, nausea and honestly thought I was going to have a heart attack. I went to the ER last night and found that I have Acid Reflux. Now that I'm home I wanted to see if there was a link between dip and Acid Reflux and there is indeed. I bought a can yesterday and only took one small dip out of it since returning from the hospital. As much as I would like to throw in a horseshoe I am going to try and repress these urges. The fact that I am constantly having stomach acid irritate my bowels is enough to make me want to back out of this dangerous habit that I once found comfort in. It will be very hard for me to deal with these withdrawal symptoms that I am reading about. I am seeking support online, since most of the people I know will either mock me or wont be actively supportive at all. I hope I am welcomed here and wish the best to all of you who are quitting. Much respect. |

Welcome aboard sir. All of the struggles and challenges you describe lead straight back to addiction. You don't need nicotine. You don't even really want it. But your brain thinks you do. This is a mind game... you can do it! But you must get your mind in the right place. First, here we quit together, as a team. You'll post roll with your group (click on the quit groups button and look for your quit date). The process seems hard - it works. Get your name on roll! Trade a few numbers. Seems weird, it works. Next, accept that this is hard, but that you are an addict. Then focus on today. Quit for today only. Let's worry about tomorrow... tomorrow. Finally, use this as a journey of self improvement. Log your trials and victories here. You'll enjoy reading of them later when time makes you forget how hard this was at first. Exercise. It makes you tired and helps push thru the suck. Eat better. Drink water. Reflect on your victories. Honored to quit with you today sir. You can do this. |

Are you done dipping and is it all flushed down the toilet? There will be support be you need to be QUIT. Also, quit tobacco and nicotine because it is an evil fucked up product, not only for health reasons. Get yourself on roll and I'll quit with you all day long. |

Welcome. Everything they said, plus - understand this is an addiction. You are addicted to nicotine every bit as much as a heroin junkie is addicted to heroin. Once your hemorrhoids are cleared up, your addict brain will try to convince you that it's time to get back to the tobacco. Your addict brain will fuck with you. That's where the daily promise we make by posting roll is so important. You promise yourself, your quit group, and every single member of this community that you will not use nicotine in any form for the rest of the day, then you make the same promise tomorrow. Be a man of your word, and keep your promise. Quit for one day, every 24 hours. That's how we do it. It's not easy, but it is simple. Find your Feb. '17 quit group. Post roll, and do the same thing tomorrow. There are instructions within your quit group thread, and also in the Welcome area. It will seem confusing at first, but don't worry. The only way to screw up roll is by not being on it. Being accountable to a group of internet strangers seems weird. But, after a while your Feb. quit brothers and sisters will be like a second family. Post up your promise, keep your word, refuse to cave, reach out when you need help. That's how it's done, and it works. |

I agree with all of the above, those are some great quitters stepping in to help you already. Also, READ READ READ all you can to understand the addiction. There's a link to a good article in my signature line, below. There are other articles here on the site. And read intros of other quitters, as many as you can, start to finish, here in the Intros. You'll see so much of you in the stories. Your stomach symptoms sound so familiar to me whenever i would stop for a few days. Deep terrible gas pains, irregular bowels, and some of the nastiest farts - like i was eating road kill or something! Collectively, we've all been where you are. You really have to jump in and be determined. Good to reach out like you have, now give it all- it gets hard but you live through it. You have to earn the freedom, the tobacco is engineered to fight back via addiction. Go get it, we're with you! |

Took my freedom back October 23, 2013. Here's an article that taught me a lot and made me hate the addiction: Nicotine Addiction 101-- newer quitters check it out-- and vets do it too, to breathe new life into your quit! 24 Quitters I have met: Ihatecope, >Pinched<, T-Cell, grizzlyhasclaws, Canvasback, BaseballPlayer, Cbird65, ERDVM, BradleyGuy, Ted, Zeno, AppleJack, Bronc, Knockout, MookieBlaylock, Rdad, 2mch2lv4, MN_Ben, Natro, Lippizaner, Amquash, ChristopherJ, GDubya, Mogul. Each one was a real honor and continues to fortify my resolve to stay QUIT!

Quitting isn't easy, but it is simple. Once you figure that out, the rest is gravy. You can't accomplish anything without the possibility of failure. ~ Gary "Lazarus Lake" Cantrell "Dip does not define you. Dip isn't who you are. It isn't your pleasure source in life. It doesn't make things easier. It doesn't help one single thing in life. Not one. Nicotine takes... money, health, integrity, freedom, and the withdrawal of not using it." ~ worktowin

Exactly ^^^ Fear Quitting never really cuts it. As soon as the immediate crisis passes... the ol' addict inside pipes up and declares that a "celebratory" dip is in order. That cycle just breeds itself, man. Quit today... with those of us who know and can help. |

You got this noodle. Man up and listen to these all star quitting bashtads that proceeded me. Hate nic for what it steals from you, hate it for the time it steals and hate it for its addictiveness. Be active in your quit and make sure you post roll every day, every day your name needs to be on roll. It's the sure fire way to success. I do not see you in Feb '17 roll yet, you have to post roll and then that day is just honoring your word. http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/30053935/106/#new Proud to be quit with you today. Noodle you are in my quit group. Post roll and read up as much as you can. Occupy your time here and get whatever you need (fake dip, seeds, gum, etc.) to satisfy the oral fixation. Get some number from the guys in the group we have to hold one another accountable and serve as lifelines when needed. The first few days are atrocious so get a network going. We are all in this together buddy! |

Noodle one thing for sure you need to realize we're all addicts here! This is definitely not a habit. A habit is picking your nose and digging in your ass. We quit hard. Own this quit, it's yours! This shits hard. Your heads screwed up, foggy, dizzy, headaches bunch of bullshit! Constipation, diaharrea , I could keep going. See this is not normal but it is for an addict. Your body will eventually heal itself but for awhile you will be in constant battles both mentally and physically. I honestly think this site has saved my life. I dipped 38 years and tried numerous times to quit only to fail because noone really ever believed I could quit or acted like they gave a shit. Here the accountability is second to none. Now that your on roll, make it first 24 hours and sometimes that could be 5 minutes at a time but whatever it takes to make it 24 hours. Get to know your group, exchange numbers, read and fight this bitch to win your life back. Damn proud to quit with you today! |
| ROLL TIDE ROLL! God, Family and crappie fishing! I will always be an addict, but hopefully never a slave again! | |
