I've been a slave to nicotine for 16 years and I'm only 24 years old. I couldn't tell you why I got the bright idea to start the disgusting habit in the first place, but what started out as trying to fit in with the older kids, led to a habit. The habit led to addiction. The addiction to a dependency that I neither want, nor can I tolerate anymore. Simply put, I am finally disgusted with myself. My daily routine consisted of wake up, run three miles, grab a dip and hop in the shower. Drive into work. spit first dip out. three cups of coffee while checking out the rigs and bullshiting with my captian and tailboards. Dip #2 in front of the computer logging daily checks. Eat breakfast. dip #3. lunch. dip #4. OSHA mandated safety nap. Pre-work out dip #5. lift weights till dinner time. eat dinner. dip #6, 7. if we get up in the middle of the night on a call another dip. Bad call any time in the 24 hour tour, add a whole other can to the already 1 1/6 total for the day. I have had maybe 100 false starts. The "I'll quit tomorrow" has come up about a dozen times just last month. Doing it for health? I'm a paramedic fireman for Christ sake. I know the health effects better than most anyone. It is past time to quit living in my own bullshit. Today is my day one. Today is for me and myself alone. Today, I say enough is enough. I am far more stubborn than my addiction to nicotine. I will win the fight. -Mick |

Mick, I have a 6 year old son with the same name. So here's some fatherly advice. The younger guys like you do not have as much success using this site as the older guys, there is no question in my mind the main reason is they believe that if they cave they can take up quitting the next day, or week, or month. It doesn't work that way. There's lots of us who quit and added decades of using afterwards. I can't tell you how many 30, 40, and 50 year old quitters on this site wish they quit at 24 instead of when they did, so don't underestimate how powerful your addiction is. Good luck, even though it makes no sense now, posting roll, and posting first thing everyday, was, and is, the difference for me, and it can be for you as well. Don't slack on this. Get ready for the grind Mick....you can do this. |

Pretty much, read my sig line. For a while, anyway, your quit needs to be the single most important thing in your life. You have to want it more than it sucks. And it will suck. Go to the Welcome Center. Learn how to post Roll. Make your promise. Repeat. |

Beating the dead horse here....and you'll hear it ofter because YES, it is unfortunately true. You will ALWAYS be an addict. You are 24, i am 23. I understand that if I'm 70, i will still be an addict. GOOGLE WHAT AN ADDICT IS. It means once you are hooked, You can never have one, NOT EVEN ONE hit, dip, pull, etc of nicotine, or you will be hooked again. Post roll and chew the cornbread. Cuz it fucking works.

Welcome aboard! This place will save your life. It saved mine, and has saved countless others too. The key is to use the system. In order for KTC to work for you, you must be willing to do some things. Roll every single solitary day! It's the most important part of our quit. It's a contract to a group of fellow quitters stating that for 24 hours you won't allow the whore to own you. You repeat this promise every day. There are some other things that will help you too, but you have to ask yourself if you're willing to take the 4 seconds it takes to roll every single day. So, are you? |

"Fuck nicotine dude. You don't need it. And you don't want it. It didn't do a thing for you and you know it." - worktowin "today you dissided that shit wont control your life. and it wont. unless you let it." - drome "Not thinking about nicotine is for people who've never used nicotine. We threw that option away with the first dip or drag on a cigarette. We are addicts, and cannot become un-addicted." - wildirish317 "You need to decide how much you really want to be quit." - pky1520 We are always at risk. And probably always will be.
