Hello All,
My name is John, Nick name (Bunky) I started dipping on a Summer night in 1988 at the age of 21 while partying with friends and never looked back, started out with copenhagen, switched to skoal longcut wintergreen due to it being easier to remove when needed, since then, I've tried many ,grizzly,Timberwolf and Longhorn, because it was cheaper, I've been averaging 2 cans per day for a few years now, It's time to put a end of this nasty habit, My wife and 3 kids have all ask me to quit many, many times over the years, but unable to, As my only attempt was at the Millennium which lasted 1 1/2 days due to stress from work. Instead of admitting my failure, I accepted the fact that I love dipping. I wanted to share my story as I've been dipping for 28 years, My wife and kids has never met the tobacco LESS man until now, At the moment of this post, I'm 13 days into my quit. This forum(site) has helped a great deal thus far as what to expect and what others have coped with during their quit. I also wanted to Thank those that make this site work and good luck to all you quitters.....1 day at a time.

Hi Bunky. I'm 41 days into my quit after 25 years addiction. Good to have you here. You'll be a member of the May pre HOF quit group. May signifies the date you'll be 100 days quit. Find your group, and there will be instructions how to post roll. Post roll every morning. That's your promise to your group members to stay quit every day, one day at s time. Each day is its own quit.

One thing you need to keep in mind - you need to do this quit for yourself. Not for your wife or your keep kids. Unless you do it for yourself, you will resent them at some point into your quit. I have a wife and four kids of my own. I know that being quit will make me a better husband and father, but my quit is for me, not them. Like you, my wife and kids have never known me not addicted.

Post to roll every day. Make your promise every day. Stay quit one day at a time. We've all been exactly where you are.

You are posting here for a reason other than to thank us for the site. Like you state "1 day at a time". When you wake up in the morning, who do you promise that you will avoid nicotine today?

Is it God? I hope not. I've broken more promises to God than any living person. When I die, I'm sure She will have a long list of broken promises to discuss with me.

Is it your wife? I make this promise to Mrs. Irish before I come here and post roll, but she's in tune with this site. (I still post roll here. I need this. I'm a focking addict.)

Is your promise to yourself? My track record with promises to myself is much worse than my promises to God.

Face it man, you are here because you need something you don't have. Even I, with Mrs. Irish's full support in my commitment to quit, need the people of this site.

Post roll, just today. Tomorrow, you can do it again.

Hey Bunky - so your wife and kids say it's time to quit. What do you say?

You're an addict, Bunky. You can say you're quitting for [fill in the blank], but if the blank isn't you, then you're chasing after the wind. Quit for you. Quit for freedom from this bitch. This place can help.

I quit with you today. Here are my digits - use them if you need them. Eight three 2 54 seven 7111.

Nice intro Bunky and happy to have you here. RDB, wildirish, and Jeff all touched upon some key flaws in your mindset and despite some young quits in there, they're spot on.

First off, you don't love dipping. You're addict mind makes you think you do, but face it...do you really love putting nasty worm shit in your lip that tastes like chum and having a lip so raw that you're not exactly sure where you can put your next dip or if you can brush your teeth without bleeding. You don't love that...but, nicotine wants you to believe that you do.

And lastly, to reinforce RDB's point...you quit for yourself. We all have wives, kids, family whom we love dearly, but I do not quit for them...I quit for me and here's why. I want to be free from nicotine, I want to be healthy, ...I want to live. If I can succeed at that, then all the people I love will reap the benefits of that. When it comes to nicotine addiction and quitting, you have to love yourself first.

Let's go Bunky. I'm with a good quitter. Are you that person? That can be held accountable on a daily basis? That makes the decision to quit for ones self? That's part of the key to success, acknowledging you are doing it for you. No one else. Ultimately, it is you. Post roll, swap numbers and so on. Also of that is wonderful as long as you quit for you. Are you ready Bunky? I'm ready to quit with you, I promise.

The reason I'm saying this is, I'm a long time user like you. At least 25 years and I just turned 39. Do the math.

Congrats. It seems that you know enough to make a daily promise to your family. I'm curious though, are you addicted to nicotine, or is it a habit?

Just completed 32 days of quit, lately the cravings have been stronger as of late, no worries, I'm still holding strong and have a great support group, Also a side note that helps me, I carry a package of life savors and Trident gum as my little helpers when I'm in need. Also , I've gained 5 lbs since my quit, Will be watching that too. Good luck to everyone, I quit with each and every one of you today and tomorrow. God Bless

Hey...this site is not a dream journal to come in and post every couple of weeks. When you promise to quit with us every day then we'll care about the trials and tribulations of your quit journey...until then, get with the program. What we do here is promise to quit every day by posting roll. Community link on the top of the page followed by welcome center link, followed by how to post roll link. Read the directions.
