Hey guys my name is Marshal and im a copeaholic..... Ha, well anyways im 24 been on the can since I was 15. Im ready to quit, Im tired of being tired, and running to the bathroom after meals to hide my snuff from my family. I feel kinda funny with this being my first post, but I have some concerns as to how this is going to affect my life. First, I am in the home building industry in Longview, Texas and deal with huge stress all day long. I have a feeling this is going to be a huge obstacle for me. Second, I am a fitness freak (AKA gym rat), I don't wanna gain weight due to my quitting. I know, I know, which is gonna kill me first? The cope for sure, but what Im asking for is how you guys may have conquered the problem of hunger and weight gain after quitting. Also, my come down off a strenuous workout is sitting in my office with a big ole pinch. I think that this time is going to be my most prevalent urge point. Third, all of my buddies dip. Man its gotta be the worst watching them get theirs while I get to sit and watch... Regardless, this is my time. I am ready to conquer this thing and put it behind me. I went and bought a bag full of dum dums, and ordered some hooch (be here tomorrow) in preparation for day one. I am looking forward to becoming part of yalls group, and am going to need endless encouragement. Hopefully, in a few days I will be able to give encouragement, to those who are in the position that I am in today. Thanks Marshal 903-738-4741 PS couple of other questions Anybody ever tried nighttime sleep aids to get through the first couple of weeks? What is the consensus on using hooch as a replacement? See yall at roll call early in the morning |

Welcome to the wonderful world of quit. It sounds like you have some of the right reasons to quit , but... I can tell we'll need to straighten a few things out before you're able to quit successfully: 1. Everyone has reasons why quitting is hard for them; your reasons might look different to you, but that's just because nicotine has fucked your brain up and made you unable to think coherently about your addiction. There is nothing special about your addiction that makes it more difficult for you than it is for others; nicotine addiction is brutally hard to overcome, no matter who you are, but people on this site overcome it every day, one day at a time. You can too. 2. Don't worry about gaining weight. Quitting nicotine messes up your metabolism for a while, and I can almost guarantee that you'll gain a few pounds. You will lose them later. On the other hand, I hear cancer patients have no trouble shedding those pesky extra few pounds. Think about that one for a while and see if you can figure out what's really important. This is a fucking life and death decision. Right now. Wake the fuck up. 3. You will need to get over the idea that you are missing out on something by not dipping. Again: your brain is fucked up by your nicotine addiction, and you are unable to think rationally about it. Absorb this like your life depends on it: nicotine does NOTHING good for you, it is your worst enemy, and it will kill you if you let it. I was where you are right now 192 days ago, and I am telling you what I am grateful that others told me then: the time to quit is RIGHT NOW- you can do this! |

Marshal- I love to hit the gym daily and I also do some mixed martial arts fighting..I'm 35 days in and haven't gained a pound. I replaced my cravings with alot of water drinking and since I was scared about gaining weight and also constantly hungry, it made me clean up my diet. Carrots....Got a friend (girl) who went thru weight watchers and carrots are like the free food..you can munch as much of these as you want. I always have a baggie with me in my lunch box and I kinda chew on these things like it was a little cigar Besides Marshal, I think you will have more energy without dip...I do. Thus, you will want to workout more. I installed a heavy punching bag in my spare bedroom..think differently than you have before and you will come up with some creative things. Stay Quit! |

Yo Marsh, I am a gym rat too and in pretty good shape, but, I was shoving my face for a while. No easy answer for you, but them big pipes are gonna look shitty when you have half a face. Lot of guys use fake stuff, and seeds and that shit. I didn't. It'll help with oral fixation, but just try and relax and not worry about over compensating with food. Plus at the beginning i was probably lazy and shit, if you stick to the gym and not over due it you wont gain weight. |

Don't they make creatine chew? Maybe you could kill two birds with one stone--snub out a crave and get a good dose of creatine! Not sure of the effectiveness though. Doesn't seem like it would work as well as digestion |

I remember you. You were in my group, October 2009. You should be about 1 week behind me if I recall correctly.I seem to recall something about a new pair of boots with all the money you were gonna save. Other than that, with the minimal number of posts, I can't tell you much else. Do you have a better plan for this time? Please share. It should start with how you're gonna be more active on this site and get to know some of your fellow quitters. |
