Wow, there is a LOT of good stuff in this thread! FLA, you are using your tools perfectly. Throw your thoughts out there, let some people respond, then find the quit that fits you and wear it. One of the old vets once said "take what you need, leave the rest". I chewed and dipped for 19 years, and for 18 1/2 of those years didn't even give a thought to quitting. Like you, I didn't want to. I ignored thoughts about death and poor health. Early last year, I half-assed quit because I thought it was the right thing to do. I caved a couple of months into it, and within a couple of days was using more than ever. At some point, I realized that I no longer had the ability to make my own decisions. I was cramming shit in my mouth and not even getting any enjoyment out of it anymore. I was disgusted with myself. I was tired of the constant nasty shit all around me. That's when I quit... for good. It was a change in mindset that I needed. I don't even use fake dip because it appears that I'm still incapable of independent thought. You are right: drinking has been the downfall of many quits. Stay away from it, at least until you're more secure in your quit. The attitude is a tough question. At first, you are gonna think about whether you want to or not. It is your responsiblity to have the right kind of thoughts. If you are in a trigger situation, staying quit needs to be your main thought at all times. Never let your guard down. |

Listen up Fla fla flu high. You stuffed poisons and cancer in your body for 23 years? You think your body and brain were happy about that? Probably not. So when you're fighting through this keep that in mind. Yeah its hard because you were killing yourself daily. Just the like the rest of us fucktards. But hey, here's the bonus...you don't do that anymore. And you will go through withdrawal once because you have quit. Revel in this brother. You are taking your life back. You will once again be in control. No more "Honey, got to get another gallon of milk...I dropped the one from the fridge" or draining the water tank because you need a long shower. Or bailing on a "only once" family event because you gotta get a fix. You will be in control. You will own your path. Not the nic bitch. Fight this. Own it. I'll fight with you. So will the rest of these quitters. They got balls. When that devil is staring them in the face I know they grit their teeth and take a swing because they want to live. So let's fight. Come on now. Let's do this. |

The gallon on milk… funny shit and so true before I started buying 5 + rolls of timber wolf at a time. And the family events - so true. We are no different than full blown heroin addicts. I’m now going into the 3 day quit mark…. Giddy fing up ! |

Day 3 - actually not that bad.. feeling somewhat close to normal today. At least I feel better than yesterday which was better than day 1. The immediate anxiety of “how I can do without” is starting to settle down… “”how the hell can I hunt or fish without dip””, etc, etc, etc, That was freaking me out the first few days because I have been doing this my entire adolescent and adult life… I can’t remember anything of my life without dip being a part of it. So it seems for now ..it’s getting a little better each day. I’m not talking to my family about this, my wife knows and is happy but is not making a big deal about it. The only thing that matters right now is that I’m very proud of myself… I dont really give a shit about anyone else and what they feel. Never in a million years thought I could go even 1 day without a dip. |

Look, I am on Day 2 - so therefore I know absolutely nothing about all this. I told everybody I know that I have quit. I am one of those who cannot stand to be seen as a failure, so I thought maybe if everyone knew about it, they would become even more motivation. Most of my coworkers smoke and they are all older than me - part of me wants to prove that it is possible. Most of me just wants to get through today, and I will worry about tomorrow when I wake up. |

THAT, Jaymodill, my new friend, is just exactly how this works. It's the ONLY way this works. You post roll today. You make a promise to everyone here that you will not use nicotine in any form TODAY. There is no promise about "tomorrow", or "soon". There is no "will quit". There is no "hope", or "try", or "give it a good shot". There is only QUIT... NOW... TODAY, and for the whole day, nicotine free. And you think about tomorrow...tomorrow. |

Seems I'm following Jay around... Did I miss something? Did you say you were relying on the fake stuff AND nicotine gum to get you through? Maybe I missed it... I mean... I read this thread. Maybe skimmed a few posts... but I think I read most of it. And I'm pretty sure you're still using nicorette. You need to quit that shit. Common misconception. You are NOT ADDICTED TO DIP. You ARE addicted to nicotine. That gum has nicotine in it. If you're still using that gum, you are only delaying the inevitable cave. Trust me. I did this. I paid $43 for a box of nicorette to support my quit. It did shit. It was the most expensive can of dip I purchased. If you really want to kill the can, you gotta kill the bitch.. and she comes in many forms (including gum). If you need anything PM me... but you need to be COMPLETELY nicotine free to earn the support of this site Again - if I missed something, I apologize... |

I haven’t posted roll yet because First, I’m not sure how. Second, I’m still chewing around 2-3 pieces of nic gun each day to help with the first week. From what I read, it’s not official until I drop the replacement nic…..even though it is only a small fraction of the nic my body is used to each day. I understand the logic and Yes, Yes… I understand I’m prolonging the pain. But to me….as long as a dip doesn’t go into my mouth… I’m successful in my eyes. I plan to drop the gum all together in the next few days. I was never one of those people that could just quit for a few days…. Few weeks or even a few years and then just randomly start doing it again. I dipped every single day for the last 22-25 years…. never skipped one single day…. I couldn’t. It still blows my mind how some people I know only dip while doing a certain activity like hunting, fishing. They can put it away for weeks at a time and then take a dip or two when they are back doing their favorite activity. I never understood how people can do that…. Day 4 – pretty much the same as the last 2 days. My sense of taste is so much better… I ate a peach yesterday and was amazed. What has helped me so far – reading a lot of other stories on this web site and Smokey Mountain fake snuff. |

Throw the nic replacement shit away right now. Believe me. I was one that started using the patch. After several tongue lashings from several of my new brothers, I ripped it off and threw them out. That was singularly the best decision I have made in a long, long time. That was three weeks ago. We have all gone through the suck. And, it does suck. But, as each day passes, you'll begin to think a little more clearly anf feel better about your life. Throw the fucking gum out, NOW!! Goto Welcome Center to learn how to post roll call. |

What whsii said. You are addicted to nicotine. Whether you get your fix from cigarettes, dip, cigars, gum, patches, or nicotine laced lollipops, it does not matter. Your body and brain will not be able to heal itself until you stop putting nicotine in your system. Why prolong that process? I would very much like to quit with you. Throw out the gum. Post Day 1 over in December. Take the plunge. You can do this. You will not regret this decision. |

Day 10 – I’m very proud of myself – 10 days without a dip. Actually haven't used the nic gum for the last 4 days . I would have never dreamed after 22+ years of doing a can every single day. What I have learned – Day 1-2 – yes they suck the worse Day 3-10 – pretty much the same. Smokey mountain snuff has helped a lot for me. Candy and gum as well. Mind games - I have had a few instances over the last few days where the “one dip won’t hurt anything” came into my head. Had to fight it off real hard. I guess we all start to get a little too confident after a week or so without dip… I figure one dip won’t hurt and I can stop anytime now. Wrong. This sounds real bad but I feel like I deserve a dip in a way… or if I do take a dip I’m not a complete failure because I have made some real progress. I know this is wrong… and all you die hard 6 month guys relax….. I’m just reporting what is going through my head right now. Again… I was 22+ years solid with the stuff in my mouth. I have also learned that I’m still very far from being “out of the woods” Thought like above and also I haven’t had a “real test” yet as far as stress or triggering events like hunting/fishing. We’ll see …. Either way I know it’s going to take months… maybe years to whip this thing completely. |

Man the nic replacement gum is gonna get you just as bad as the tobacco! I just replied this on another poster that talked about the gum! No shit......I know a guy that quit with nic gum......instead of a $30 a week addiction to skoal he now has a $50 addiction to nicorette! You are just fooling yourself. And as far as saying "I was a 22 - 25 year dipper without missing a day".....that is just your addiction to nic talking! You are telling yourself you are successful in your eyes cuz its not dip?!?!?!? There are plenty of 20 plus year dippers on this site that quit cold turkey! If you are using nic gum you are not quit! It is the same as any other drug addict just going from one method to another! Just quit! I am not saying this without experience.....I used the gum for 2 days and learned quick from the guys here that it is still feeding the addiction! I quit the gum after that......you need to as well! |
