Wow guys. I am overwhelmed with all of the support and positive feedback I have received. This is incredible. My confidence has gone up exponentially since my last post yesterday.

Thank you all for your support. It's only been a couple days and I am already feeling more confident I can do this.

Yesterday was a tobacco free day. About to do the same thing today.

Do not over think this shit... ODAAT only ... One day at a time,my friend One Day at a time.

A lot of people use the herbal chew with great success. Fireballs are good too. What's the matter with your jaw? [/QUOTE]
I have severe TMJ. I get daily jaw pain and migraines as a result. Avoiding things like sunflower seeds and constantly moving my jaw help my symptoms.

Congrats on 4 days! I had trouble sleeping early on ... Take advantage of that time and read the site. You will learn a whole bunch and it will wear you down eventually.

You are winning today. Freedom from nicotine is a beautiful thing. Finish off the day strong. Quit!

Never said it, but one of the reasons I quit was a very suspicious sore in my mouth. Got it checked today and it's nothing of concern. Excited to no longer live in fear of every damn sore bump etc that pops into my mouth. Comin up on a week. Couldn't be more proud.

Congrats Kev. Don't be surprised if you have other sores over the next weeks of quitting your mouth is going through some serious healing and changing.

I saw your post in Roll today. Going off grid in Vegas makes no damn sense. Going off grid in the Rocky Mountains makes sense. If your serious about your quit and don't want anymore of those "scares" then you best find a way to Post Roll while in Vegas. We have had enough cavers lately. Don't want anymore.
Today, I quit!!!

No kidding. You'll be surrounded by gambling, drinking, smoking, dipping... this is NOT the time to go off the grid, it's the time to do the opposite.

A lot of people find KTC after a cancer scare. When it turns out to be nothing, their drive (fear) fades away and their addiction takes over. 7 days is awesome, man, but you have a big test in front of you.

Annual Fishing trip is coming up for me in April. One week in a campground that has no cell service. We have gone to same place for 20 years. This year I changed the site to a campground nearer Mt. Shasta so I can text Pbrain easlily so he can post for me. What is more important than quitting? "Going off the Grid"!?????? STUPID and DANGEROUS.

Day two and things are already tougher than I thought.  Definitely missing the sensation of having a dip in my mouth.  Has anyone had success with the non tobacco herbal chews?  Or maybe similar substitutions to fill the oral fixation?  I have problems with my jaw and unfortunately cannot chew sunflower seeds.

One thing that really surprises me is I'm (as hard as it is to admit) scared to quit.  The idea of having to go without a chew for the rest of my life seems like one of the hardest challenges I'll ever face.

Maybe I'm building this up to be more than it really is, but I can tell this is going to take all of me to kick this habit.

"scared to quit"...."rest of my life"? Really? Read some of the posts about losing loved ones to cancer and then you'll understand what being scared means. Scared(still scares) the shit out of me!

I'm no expert, but I will tell you what I did to combat the "oral fixation". I went to a store named "Cheap Tobacco" and bought 1 tin of each fake chew they sold. The old lady must have thought I was nuts. I didn't care because I needed that fix too. I get it. Half of the stuff I bought tastes like shit, but if I remember correctly, my first real dip didn't taste all that great either.

Hang in there. It'll get better. We're here for you.
