Well boys and girls, here I am about to begin a journey that has me excited but also a little scared. No dip today. My goal is not long term but rather minute by minute. I am a skoal addict, more like a crackhead over the stuff, so my quit goals are make it minute by minute. One good thing about this is I really can't cheat. Im sitting at home with a torn tendon in my ankle and can not drive and my wife refuses to buy the stuff for me. I have 2 reasons for wanting to quit. 1) Save money 2) I do not want to die. So here I am, about to embark on this scary but exciting journey. Yall wish me luck I need it. Bobby |

Bobby, you don't need luck, you simply need to join december's quit group...post roll everyday...and keep your word. go to the welcome center (pink, upper left corner). it sounds like you have a bad wheel, so just read everything on this site. |

Hey, Bobby, welcome. It sounds like you're serious about quitting, and with the help of KTC I know you will. I read over your intro, and would like to suggest a few slight mods to your way of thinking. Ready? First, you are not addicted to skoal, you are addicted to nicotine. Skoal was only the delivery system that you found most convenient. It's an important distinction, because it means you can't have ANY nicotine. No smokes, no dip, no chew, no gum, no lozenges, nothing with nicotine in it. Second, don't convince yourself that, because you're laid up, you're safe from "adventuring" to find nicotine. Addicts are SNEAKY, addicts are CREATIVE, and addicts are DRIVEN. I can think of half a dozen ways offhand of acquiring nicotine in your position. That way of thinking leads to disaster. Third, nothing here is about luck. We don't Try, we don't Hope, we don't "give it our best shot", and we don't need Luck. We QUIT, we COMMIT, we give our oaths to one another that, come what may, we absolutely will not use nicotine that day. Then we keep our promises. THAT is how we beat our addictions. I am a nicotine addict, who hasn't used nicotine for more than two years, and I'm telling you, this is how it works, for all of us. And it will work for you too. Quit, commit, and keep your promise. Every day. |

There is no luck to it, its all a mind game. You need the mindset that you are done and that you are never going to put that nasty stuff back in your mouth. Its not going to be easy and you damn better be scared. Im 41 days in and still scared the nic bitch is going to creap back up on me. Quit one day at a time, screw forever. You got this. |

This post is spot on gump! Bobby, listen, read, use all the tools available on this site. Keep you're word daily! I've tried to quit countless times and trying isn't going to cut it with this bitch! You keep you're word daily understand you're addiction and you will quit! If I can do it anyone can at times I never thought it was possible but I'm 271 today and still posting role daily. It will get easier but it's going to suck for now. Man up you'll be fine. Pm me if you need any help! |

Hi Bobby, I just out of the gate with you. There is no way to say there is anything about this that is fun, except where you are going. The destination is the reward for the hard journey. Living without being a slave to the can, and more importantly greatly reducing the risk of killing ourselves by our own choices. It's not fun but it is worth it and there are a bunch of us in the same boat so lets be strong and get started. Pogue |

In true firefighter fashion, he embraces the suffering with an LOL. It's a daily battle, but it gets easier. You can do this, bro. Your orginal post about your ankle grabbed my attention because about a month into my quit, I blew the miniscus in my right knee. After surgery, I was out of service for 10 weeks. That was some tough going. One thing is certain: idle time is the enemy of an addict. KTC is a good distraction. So are boobs and idiots, and there are plenty of those here, too. You wanna know how I got through some of those tough idle times? Maybe not, but I'll tell you anyway. Text or call a brother/sister from KTC. When you hit a tought spot, send a "This is killing me!", "I need a dip!", or some other nonsense message to a half dozen quitters and see what happens. That will keep you busy for an hour at least. Adapt, overcome, conquer. It applies to quitting, too. |

Bobby: 99 days ago I was in your shoes, but I vowed each day during that time period to not put nicotine in my system just for that day. Today I made that promise and I intend on keeping it because a man keeps his word. All that matters is today. |

Shouldn't you be able to post roll since you're sitting at home? You didn't answer my question yesterday in the December group so I'll ask it here. You were in May 09 so you should be around 950 days by now. How is this time going to be any different? What's the price for admission around these parts? |
