Wrapping up day 11 here. I haven't posted before, but I have been reading a lot. In fact, I credit my time on this Website tonight as the reason why I didn't make a short trip to the store to buy a can. I'm not new at quitting. I quit a couple years back for over a year. Only to fall off the wagon due to some phony stressful situation. 11 days ago I quit for good. Not because I had a sore. Not only for my wife and kids. But as a birthday gift to myself. However, now that I've been quit for almost two weeks, I have very strong desires. When I have these desires I try to justify a reason to cave. I usually do so by reading about harm reduction studies (Brad Rodo and Carl V. Philips). But then I second guess what I read and end up here. So far, KTC is undefeated in helping me battle these cravings. I'm making a new commitment tonight. That is to never research health studies of smokeless tobacco again. Closing Thought: During my first quit a couple of years ago, I discovered that Clove gum was a great substitute. It has a little bite to it, and not fruity like the varities of gum made and sold today. I'm going to have to buy a box of Clove gum. Maybe some BlackJack too. |

Hey Spartan. Welcome to the suck. 11 days is a fantastic acheivement and not something worth throwing away. But you know that. You've quit for over a year before. You know 11 days is just the tip of the iceberg. So... since you've quit before, I'll sing an old refrain "what's different this time?" - except you already answered that. Clearly you've found value in what KTC has to offer. Clearly you value the message and support that is evident on this site every day. But, clearly, you have yet to commit. Go post roll. I was you. I WAS YOU ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY NINE DAYS AGO. I've quit before. I searched everywhere for scientific help... I'm betting your search was seeking a statistic along the lines of "what percentage of dippers actually get cancer" - I've searched that before. I'm sure many of us have. I was you. I'm quit. I'm not "quitting." I'm quit. You are too. Don't matter how long. You're quit. Now post your promise to ensure you're still quit today. Or tomorrow. (it's already tomorrow here). You want KTC to work, the rules are easy. Post roll, repeat. Welcome - Proud to be quit with you. |

Caving is not an option, Do something else. Burn your boats! "This takes commitment, effort, accountibility and to be honest....blood, guts and nuts." - redtrain14 "Hey, snowflake, don't take a seat in the life raft if you are not serious about saving your life." - Scowick65 "Now I can walk through walls and my quit can talk to god. That's right. Crazy voodoo magic quit." - Souliman Nicotine doesn't give two shits about your strategery, and that's just a fact. Only strategy that works is promise not to use nicotine first thing every morning, keep that promise all day, rinse, repeat. - teamgreen | |

Spartan, You need to post roll TODAY! You are about to cave again. Post roll and get involved because the program here works. Get serious and stop listening to the addiction justifying a cave---MAN UP! Pm me if you have any questions or need help. |

Thanks for the support. I'm not sure what is meant by "post roll". I'm assuming its a thread somewhere that I haven't yet found, that is used for members to announce that they are still quit and will remain quit for another day. If so, count this as my day 12 commitment to stay quit. |

Spartan - upper left of your screen, you'll see a pretty little pink "WELCOME" link. Click that, it's the welcome center. Read everything front to back. It explains how to post roll. Number 1 important is that you: post roll (your promise not to use nicotine today in ANY form), then follow up by keeping your word. Stop what you are doing right now, read up, and post roll. It WILL save your life. Not figuratively, literally. Denny |

Gump, not sure why you would think I'm some troll, but I assure you, I'm here for the same reasons as everyone else. If there is something in either of my posts that lead you to believe otherwise, let me know and I'll do my best to prove otherwise. If its the name, Spartan. Well, I can offer some clarity as to why I chose that name because as anyone familiar with Sparta knows that a Spartan is about as tough as they come. I was going to give myself the clever moniker of Spartan Quitter, but that seemed to be contradiction, since Spartans certainly are not quitters. Therefore, Spartan. And I feel that I need to be as tough as a Spartan in order to win this battle. My first quit was easy. I got scared. There was no second guessing. Well, there was, but that happened much later, like a month or two later, or I somehow recall a three month quit mark that had me thinking about caving. But at that point it was much easier for me to say no. This time its much harder. I'm scared of what could happen if I don't quit, but its not a sore scare that made me quit. I quit for the reason I gave in my first email. The first day or two I used nicorette. That helped take the nerve off, but I don't really like having to monitor the chew for 15 seconds, store gum, chew, store, chew, store, etc. Now I'm just on regular gum and Spitz sunflower seeds (they seem less salty). I wish Clove gum was easier to find. Its been another difficult night. But I made it through day 12. DennyX, I have and will continue to read more on this Website. After this post I will check out the Welcome link. Thanks. |

Quitting is a good thing. You only quit once so you have never quit before 12 days ago. There is no cave. |

Welcome Spartan. I think you've figured out how this works by now. The key is to eat this elephant in small bites. 1 day at a time...or hour by hour when you need to. Glad you're here. I'm quit with you today. |
