I decided I wanted to quit laying in bed Monday night. I told myself I would just quit cold turkey. Bad news though, I couldn't make it past lunch; however, I only had four dips. I know that sounds bad, but I was going through two cans a day. I decided that was an accomplishment and told myself that I would dip even less the next day. Well that day was today and I was successful. I only had three dips. With that little bit of confidence, I decided to research ways to get over the addiction. That is when I stumbled upon this forum. I am ready to complete my 100 days; and tomorrow the tobacco industry loses another customer. |

I guess today we will see if you are a man of your word. I will look for you on the boards and if you decide to commit yourself to this, then please honor you word. You do that and you will have a lot of support and will find yourself successful in this quit. Also, don't focus on 100 days. Trust me, this addiction doesn't magically end there. You only need to focus on staying dip free today. Tomorrow we will worry about tomorrow. Let me know if you need anything. |

Yeah I remember those days, BEFORE I found this site. "Tomorrow is going to the be the day", "Yippee Mommy, today I only went through one tin, instead of 2..." And so on. Dude we know it's tough. Time to man up though. I hope by the time you read this, all your shit will be thrown away and you are ready to begin this journey. There are no casual quits here. just do it. There's plenty of advice on here to be read and plenty of people who will have your back but not until you are fully quit. So report back and we will be waiting... |

I tried that cut back a little each day also. I did that for about 2 days, and then ramped it back up. Then I decided to quit. Not try to quit. Just quit. Trust me, the anxiety you are feeling over knowing this will soon be your last one is much worse than actually quitting. Dump the can and move on with life. This isn't an easy thing your doing, but it is as simple as DON'T PUT IT YOUR YOUR MOUTH. I'll see you in June 2010 roll call this morning. Post HERE. How and why to post roll call HERE. |

It is very rare that I pick apart a post and respond to individual pieces but this one is sooooo laden with excuses you are doomed to fail if you don't change your thought process.
No this just isn't true. You chose to not make it past lunch. At some point in that day you made a conscious decision to choose a dip over your quit. You signed the contract in your heart. (link to the contract --> http://www.killthecan.org/facts/contract.asp ) A lot of quitters carry around a printed copy and promise to sign it in ink when they are too weak to stay quit. I'm telling you that whether or not it gets signed in ink, it gets signed in intent when someone caves. Think about that.
Really? Before I quit, I only had four dips a day too. I had one when I woke up that I took out when I ate breakfast. I had my second when I was done eating breakfast and took it out when it was time for lunch. I had my third when I was done with lunch and took it out when it was time for supper. I had my fourth after supper and took it out when I went to bed. So I guess four isn't that bad after all. Maybe I'll pick up a tin so I can have me some accomplishment too.
I realize that last one was pretty harsh so I'll leave the sarcasm out of this one. I subscribe to the "bad dip" theory. This theory basically says that there is that one dip that will start the chain reaction that leads to the big C. I'm not a doctor or a statistician and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so I have no fact to back this opinion. It's just what seems to happen in my uneducated mind. I might be wrong, but if I'm right you'd be "dead" wrong to disagree with it.
This is where you start to pull it together. But even here there are a couple of traps waiting in the logic. First off, don't worry about the next 100 days. Worry about the next 100 seconds. Worry about getting your name on roll and giving your word to not use tobacco in any form for today and today alone. Make a constant decision to honor that pledge. And unfortunately, it will be a constant decision at first. But in time it will become a daily decision and that will turn into days and weeks of not thinking about dip. Which leads me to the last thing that I want you to consider. In the next 100 days, you will be given advice on how to deal with triggers and craves. You will be shown what tools you need to stay quit. And in that time you will feel increasingly better and stronger over your addiction. Be aware that there is nothing magical about 100 days that is going to cure you. But worry about when it comes. |

It's not that some people have willpower and some don't... It's that some people are ready to change and others are not. NEVER AGAIN !! "I have been down here before, I know the way out. Well, maybe new criticism will get you to actually post roll, be involved and get you off your friggin ass and support the rest of us that have been doing this ON A DAILY FUCKING BASIS WITH JUNE. Less that 10 posts in the course of the first 90 days? What the fuck do you want? A cardboard cookie? A golden star for your "QUIT"? I AM glad you are quit. I am pissed off bigger than shit that we are working through this together and you have been MIA....NO....let me rephrase that...you are a DESERTER...you left us on the battlefield without a second thought. Now, that the first victory (100 days) is in site, you come running back in ready to revel in the spoils of the war? Sorry, I have no sympathy for you. |

Not being active in the quit and popping up whenever you want to leads to the "Kiss My Ass" side All you new quitters with less than 60 days of quit under your belt take notice. I want you to remember my reaction to this. If you think it is harsh, remember it and look back on it as you near the Hall. Think about all the craves, the doubts, the anger, the near-caves, the support you gave and received. Now imagine someone who joind the site, supposedly made the same committment that YOU did, and then disappeared only to resurface about a week before the Hall. HOW WOULD YOU RECEIVE HIM? |
