Title: I'm quitting in 7 days, how can I get in a group?
Dan - September 24, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
My name is Dan and I'm quitting dipping next monday, October 1. I'm going to go cold turkey but I know it will be the hardest thing I've ever done. How can I get in a group? Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. Quitting is very important to me. I have a trip planned this weekend with 11 friends to a college football game. I know I can't quit before then. I AM going to quit on monday. Again, thanks for the reply

Phrases like can't, I'll try, wish me luck, and hope aren't used here. If you really want to quit, and I mean really want it, then you will receive the support to make it happen. Read through the posts here, they will help. Tomorrow should be the day, but if it must be Monday, then make it so. Give your word to yourself and us that you will not dip or any other tobacco for that one day by signing roll 1st thing in the morning. SIGNING ROLL IS YOUR WORD!

I'm not going to argue with someone who already has built in excuses for why he can't quit right now.....Honestly, when my friend stayed quit when his son died, when many of us stayed quit when our friend Cliff died, your trip away with friends to watch a football game pales in comparison. <_<
Come back Oct. 1. Post up in January 2008 that you are quit and on day 1, and we will go from there. You will find support, locker room humor, drama, support, ragging, support, more drama, and most importantly the tools you need to successfully quit and people who really care that you do, and will go out of their way to help you do it.
There is no luck, there is only doing it. I hope to see you back in a week. That is, of course, unless a new excuse pops up that keeps you from quitting right now.

Dear Dan:
You’ve gotten some pretty good advice already. You’ve also stated that peer pressure is something you can’t handle.
Let’s break your two brief statements down. You want to quit or you wouldn’t have wasted your time by registering on this site. What it is going to boil down to is this: what are you willing to sacrifice to accomplish your goal? A very simple question, but one that an addict will have a hard time coming up with a good solid answer for. You see Dan, as an addict, you can get all pumped up about quitting right now but the tediousness of carrying your plan out is something you’ll struggle with, especially after the novelty of a quit wear off.
Picking a date is great. However, we both know you’ll come up with a million excuses why Oct 1 is not a good time to quit. The end of September is not good because of a college football outing right? Right. We’ve established that you can’t say “No” to your friends. Why will Oct 1 be any different. Maybe you’ll be stressed on Oct 1 ‘cause the Cubs blew yet another pennant race. Maybe this time of year is no good. We should wait until baseball season is over huh?
Then we have a whole month of holidays. We can’t be clean thru the hoilidays can we? Nah. Maybe January 1st is better. Yeah. Let’s do Jan 1st. But, then there are the NFL playoffs. We can’t be clean then, right? Let’s do Feb 1st. Spring training is coming! You getting the picture yet?
There will never be a convenient time to quit. Pick a date if you want, but if you are smart you’ll jump on the quit wagon while you have the momentum. Besides, the dip you take between now and Oct 1 could very well be the one that kills you. Kinda sobering huh?
LOOT knows, none of this is sinking in is it? See, LOOT can feel your eyes rolling all the way over here. “LOOT don’t know me”…”LOOT is full of shit”…”LOOT can kiss my ass”…LOOT has heard all your bullshit before. You won’t be the first to quit reading one of LOOT’s posts and you won’t be the last. But…if any bit of this sinks in…let it be this…
Until you are man enough to face yourself, you will never be man enough to face your addiction. Friends come and go Dan, cancer and death are sorta permanent. Your choice.
LOOT will be waiting on Oct 1st to see if you are a man of your word. Pardon LOOT if he doesn’t hold his breath tho.

Hey guys I just found this website. I have quit dipping for the past 9 days after 17 year habit. This website looks awesome. I know I will need suppport and what better way to get it than from people who are going through it. blood in the fight as they say. I am not sure where to find roll call can someone help me thank you. I decided to do it for my boys. My 4 year old jonathan asked if he could have some dip 9 days ago that was it for me. But it has been so hard.
