Title: Those of my quit.
Description: The people of quitting.

RoyJester - April 24, 2009 05:10 PM (GMT)
If you use this site, you’ll run into some different people, here are some of the types of people I ran into, and how they helped me stay quit each day.

Daily Poster – this is the guy that shows up once a day to post roll. You can tell exactly what day he’s on by the number of posts he’s got. I always looked for these guys because they usually posted early, at the top of the list. I kind of respected the way they could quietly say I’m quit for today, and that’s all they needed.

Gladiator of Quit – this is the guy that was born with a chaw in, spat it out on the doctor’s foot and bummed another off his old man. He winked at his kindergarten teacher and smacked her ass when she suggested he shouldn’t chew in class. Yeah, that guy. Well he’s now quit, but none of his friends are, so he comes in talking about how he went on some vision quest and his buddies are stocked up on dip, so he had to climb a mountain in the dark during a snowstorm to get reception, and post up still quit. This is the guy that made me say, “fuck, if this guy can do it, and I can’t, I’m cutting off my balls and mailing them to him, ‘cause I don’t deserve ‘em.”

Quit Buddies – these guys know each other, either literally or they just “clicked” on the site. These are the guys who when you bitch at one, the other is not too far behind lettin’ ya know you’re now outnumbered. These guys were awesome when you’re in a bad mood, ‘cause it’s like a 2 for 1 deal, you get to screw with both of them. They also come in handy when you pick a fight outside your quit group, they’re very loyal and will come to your aid.

Statistics Guy – this is the guy who will let you know each and every day you missed posting. He’s keeping track of who’s naughty and nice. If someone doesn’t post he notices, and documents this finding. For me this was one of the first realizations that all quits are different. The statistician kept stats and posted them, some liked it, others didn’t and a huge battle ensued. When the dust settled I think a lot of people, like them or not, respected the statistics for those it helped. I also DID NOT want to end up on the “not posted” list.

Late Comer – this guy shows up around day 50 for his first post. He usually is having trouble staying quit, did an Interweb search and found this site. He posts up, slides into a few discussions and it’s like he was there from day 1. These guys made me think back on my early quit, and how much I relied on the site to stay quit, and now it’s just a routine. These guys had to go through HELL in the beginning, on their own. I don’t want to go through that hell again; I think I’ll stay quit.

Asshole – this guy is an asshole. He’s not from your group, but insists on posting in it anyway. Then it happens, he comes in and drops a turd on the whole group, calling us a bunch of pussy quitters who won’t make it. Enraged responses of 20+ quotes taking up page after page of profanity laced antagonist/protagonist quips. And the asshole won’t give up, no, in fact he’s joined by another asshole! Until the entire group tells them to get out they continue their tirade of degrading posts. This brings the group together against an adversary, and we realize we’re all against nicotine, we understand what the asshole was doing and we can work together and we will prevail as a group against our enemy.

Nasty Bastard – this guy has the most disgusting chewing stories you’ve ever heard, I’m not going to repeat them, yuck. At first I was so disgusted by this guy and the actions taken just for that dip, then, thinking about it, how am I any better. Would I really have done any different? I don’t have to find out because I’m quit and will never stoop to that level, and the Nasty Bastard won’t either, because he’s quit too.

Quit Girl? – girls don’t chew, that’s gross. Well, some girls do chew, and it’s gross, so they quit, now they’re not gross, or not as gross anyways. Hmm… When I chewed was I gross? Yes I was, but I’m not anymore because I quit, well, not as gross anyways.

Mr. Popular – Everybody likes Mr. Popular. He’s cool, he does cool things, he hangs out with cool people and he posts cool stories. Every time Mr. Popular posts he’s got a response, and an engaging conversation ensues. Even the quit buddies like Mr. Popular. Mr. Popular lets us know that cool people chewed, cool people quit and this cool person wants you to stay quit too. If you aren’t doing so well, Mr. Popular will drop you a line and let you know he wants you to stay in his cool group by staying quit. I like feeling cool with Mr. Popular.

You – Everyone on this site has an addiction they are battling. This addiction sucks, it’s hard to give it up. It is easier to be quit because you are quit with me, and I don’t want to let you down, I don’t want to have to tell you I couldn’t do it, the addiction was too strong. Thank you for holding me accountable, and helping me stay quit.

A huge thanks to April 09, and that’s it.
