Title: Burma and China
Description: Discussion of tragedy and relief

How about a Burma/China thread or current events thread for reflections like the following:

I've been moved and disturbed by the images and reports coming from both Burma (Myanmar) and China following their natural disasters. It is difficult for me to imagine the scale of the displacement and suffering. Perhaps the saddest thing for me is the fact that, in Burma, more people will die as a result of disease and lack of food (beyond the people actually killed by the cyclone). I heard on NPR that a child in Burma will die in 2 days from diarrhea caused by drinking unclean water. That just sucks and is unnecessary.

B/c I wanted to do something, I sent a few dollars to some trusted friends in ministry with contacts already in Burma. (Global Women -- donation link at the bottom left, drop down to Burma Relief)

Now I'll be watching to see what the next cyclone threatening Burma will do.
